| Stolz Family Milos Adoption |
| The Starfish Story Original Story by: Loren Eisley One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…” I made a difference for that one.” Determined to make a difference for at least one more ‘starfish’, we are travelling to adopt a little boy with Down syndrome. Milos is a 10 year old boy living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. Until 1997 when MSNBC ran a three part series about abuses in these institutions, he was in a mental institution there. Following that report, he was transferred to an orphanage where he has lived since. The link below gives a snapshot of that report: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/21794657#21794657 What we know of Milos at this point is his name, age, birth town and a general statement that he is “healthy, without heart problems”. Of course, we do not know what tests they were able to run to make that statement. We do know he is EXTREEMLY small: currently, he is 40 inches tall and just under 30 lbs…about the size of a skinny 3-4 year old at age 10 years. The surf is up and the tide is going out. I WILL make difference for THIS one.” |
